On the morning of November 24, the gathering to honor model workers and exemplary individuals was grandly held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. President Xi Jinping, also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, attended the conference and delivered an important speech. On behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, Xi extended warm congratulations to the national model workers and exemplary individuals who were honored, and expressed sincere greetings to the working class and working people who have made outstanding contributions to China's reform and opening-up, and socialist modernization. Professor Wang Shuangfei from the School of Light Industry and Food Engineering of our university, who was awarded the title of 2020 National Exemplary Individual, attended the commendation conference as part of the Guangxi delegation.
In his speech, Xi Jinping emphasized that honor belongs to the laborers, and happiness belongs to the laborers. Socialism is achieved through hard work, and the new era is forged through struggle. Model workers are the elite of the nation, the role models of the people, and the heroes of the Republic. China is a socialist country where the people are the masters, and the Party and the State have always adhered to the principle of relying wholeheartedly on the working class. They have consistently emphasized the important role of the working class and the working people in the development of CPC and the country, and have always attached great importance to giving play to the important roles of model workers and exemplary individuals. To promote high-quality development, build a new development pattern, and implement the new development concept in the new development stage, we must closely rely on the working class and the working people. The working class and the working people in China should unite more closely around the CPC Central Committee, be diligent in creation, and brave in struggle, striving for new and historic achievements in fully building a modern socialist country.
As a scientific and technological worker, Wang Shuangfei has led his team to repeatedly overcome major technological bottlenecks and promote the transformation of scientific achievements. In 2016, Wang Shuangfei led his team in a decade-long research project on "Key Technologies and Applications of Paper and Fermentation Typical Wastewater Reuse and Ultra-Low Emissions". This technology broke the monopoly of foreign countries in this field for nearly 30 years and won the Second Prize for the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award in 2016. In 2019, the project called "Key Technologies and Applications for Large-Scale Chlorine Dioxide Preparation System and Elemental Chlorine-Free Bleaching of Pulp", led by Wang Shuangfei, won the Second Prize for the State Technological Invention Award.
