School Overview

School of Light Industry and Food Engineering of Guangxi University was founded in 1978. After more than 40 years of development, the school now has 105 teaching staff, including 84 full-time teachers, 20 professors, 34 associate professors, and 78 teachers with doctoral degrees. Among all the staff, there is one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, two honorary professors (academicians) of Junwu, one distinguished professor under the National Major Talent Project, one participant in the National High-Level Youth Talent Program and two national candidates of “Millions of Talents Program”. There is one member of the Discipline Review Group of State Council, one member of the Teaching Guidance Committee of the Ministry of Education, three recipients of the special government allowance from the State Council, two Bagui Scholar, and one tenured professor of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region(GZAR). We have formed a high-quality and innovative teaching team with noble morality and excellent expertise..


The school takes discipline construction as the core, highlighting discipline characteristics and streamlining research directions, all in an effort to comprehensively improve discipline standards. The school now has one first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization point,  two first-level master's programs, three professional master's degree programs, three undergraduate programs, and one postdoctoral station. In 2013, our discipline of Light Industry Technology and Engineering was approved as a key prominent discipline by Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region(GZAR) and Guangxi University. And in 2017, it was elected as the first-class discipline of Guangxi. In 2013, the discipline of Food Science and Engineering was approved as a key discipline by the university. Light Chemical Engineering was selected into the First-Class Majors Construction Sites, a national key program of higher education, and a high-quality special major of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region(GZAR). Packaging Engineering was also selected into the First-Class Majors Construction Sites and was listed as a First-Class discipline with advantages and characteristics of GZAR. Likewise, Food Science and Engineering has won titles of different levels. At the same time, it was selected as  an urgently needed major in the autonomous region.


The School of Light Industry and Food Engineering adheres to the goal of enhancing scientific, technological and collaborative innovation by building a high-level scientific research platform that combines study, research and production. The school has a total of 1.2 hectares of laboratory space, with a total equipment value of more than 130 million yuan. The 3,000 sets of instruments and equipment include nuclear magnetic resonance imaging, transmission electron microscope, gas chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography.


The school continues to refine its characteristics and give full play to its advantages through discipline development, scientific research, student education and social service. All these endeavors are for a better and brighter future.
