Recently, the State Council Academic Degrees Committee approved the list of members for the Eighth Academic Degree Evaluation Committee of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, and Professor Qin Chengrong from the School of Light Industry and Food Engineering at our university was selected as a member of the Light Industry Technology and Engineering Subcommittee. He is currently the only member from Guangxi’s universities to be part of the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee.
The Academic Degree Evaluation Committee of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee (referred to as the "Academic Degree Evaluation Committee") is an expert organization under the leadership of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee of the People's Republic of China. It engages in consultation, research, supervision, and review related to academic degrees and graduate education. The committee is composed of professors or experts with equivalent professional and technical titles who have profound academic achievements and experience in supervising doctoral students in their respective disciplines. The main tasks of the committee include: researching major issues related to the development and reform of academic degrees and graduate education based on disciplinary trends and national needs, providing consultations or making suggestions to the State Council Academic Degrees Committee; evaluating and providing review opinions on the establishment, adjustment, or revocation of degree-conferring institutions and their authorized disciplines; researching and proposing opinions or suggestions on adjusting and revising the catalog of degree-conferring and talent-training disciplines; participating in quality inspection and supervision, investigating and researching the situation of degree conferring and talent training in their respective disciplines, and providing consultations or making suggestions to the State Council Academic Degrees Committee and the Ministry of Education on discipline construction, talent training, and degree conferring at degree-conferring institutions; and undertaking special consultations on mutual recognition and evaluation of degrees in international exchanges.
Professor Qin Chengrong, a Ph.D., supervisor and the Vice Secretary of the Party Committee and Dean of the School of Light Industry and Food Engineering, was selected for the national "Hundreds, Thousands, and Ten Thousand Talents Project" and was awarded the title of "Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Expert with Remarkable Contributions". He enjoys special government allowances from the State Council. In 2018, he was appointed as a member of the Steering Committee for Guidance in Light Industry Majors Teaching in Higher Educations Institutions by the Ministry of Education and as a member of the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Paper Industry. As a key contributor, he has won several prestigious awards, including the Second Prize for State Technological Invention Award in 2019, the Second Prize for State Scientific and Technological Progress Award in 2016, the First Prize for Technological Progress Award from the Ministry of Education in 2013, the First Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress Award from the China National Light Industry Council in 2013, the Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress Award from Guangxi in 2017, the First Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress Award from Guangxi in 2015, and the Third Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress Award from Guangxi in 2013. He also serves as the Executive Member of the China Technical Association of the Paper Industry, President of the Guangxi Branch of China Paper Industry Association, and as a peer reviewer for prestigious academic journals such as “Bioresource Technology”, “Cellulose”, “China Pulp & Paper”, and “Transactions of China Pulp and Paper”. He has led two Less Developed Regions Programs and one General Program under National Natural Science Foundation of China, as well as six provincial and ministerial-level scientific research projects. He has participated in one project each under the National 973 Program and the 863 Program, two projects under National Natural Science Foundation of China, and one National Key Technologies R&D Program. He has published over 70 papers in academic journals at home and abroad, more than 40 of which have been indexed by SCI (including three JCR Q1 Top Papers and one ESI Highly Cited Paper). He holds 19 authorized invention patents, 10 of which have been successfully commercialized, with a total transfer amount of 6.8 million RMB.
