From May 24 to 26, the 21st Academic Annual Meeting of the China Technical Association of Paper Industry, co-hosted by Guangxi University and the China Technical Association of Paper Industry was held in Nanning. The meeting was attended by prominent figures such as Zhang Chonghe, former Deputy Director of the State Commission Office of Public Sectors Reform and Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the China National Light Industry Council, Qian Guijing, former Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Key Large State-owned Enterprises under the State Council and former Vice President of the China National Light Industry Council, Academician Chen Kefan from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Professor at South China University of Technology, Academician Wang Shuangfei from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Professor at Guangxi University’s School of Light Industry and Food Engineering, Liu Huanbin, former President of South China University of Technology, Yang Shuguang, Deputy Secretary-General and Director of the Party Building and Personnel Department of the China National Light Industry Council, Cao Zhenlei, President of the China Technical Association of Paper Industry, and along with nearly 300 participants including experts and scholars of various paper industry-related associations, universities and research institutions, and representatives and members from enterprises and public institutions.
At the conference, Academician Wang Shuangfei delivered a keynote speech titled "Biotechnology Supporting Green Development in the Paper Industry: Opportunities, Challenges, and Exploration". He summarized the features and applications of biotechnology in clean pulping, energy saving, and high-efficiency production, and emphasized innovative biopulping technology applying to papermaking based on synthetic biology.
Professor Nie Shuangxi from the School of Light Industry and Food Engineering at Guangxi University was invited to present a special report at the annual meeting titled "Design and Advanced Applications of Triboelectric Special Papers". Professors Qian Guangfu and He Qian from the same school, who obtained support from the Young Elite Scientists Sponsorship Program by China Association for Science and Technology, also presented reports at the Youth Academic Session.
During the 9th Member Congress of the China Technical Association of Paper Industry and the 60th Anniversary Celebration, Academician Wang Shuangfei was elected Honorary Director of the Senior Expert Advisory Committee of the 9th Council of the association, Professor Qin Chengrong for the School of Light Industry and Food Engineering of Guangxi University was elected Vice Chairman, and Professor Nie Shuangxi was awarded the "Cai Lun Youth Science and Technology Award" by the China Technical Association of Paper Industry.

The China Technical Association of Paper Industry is a national, academic, and non-profit organization voluntarily formed by scientific and technological individuals and units engaged in pulping and papermaking. It serves as a bridge and link between the Party, the government, and scientific and technological workers in pulping and papermaking industry, and is a significant force in advancing the development of pulping and papermaking in China. Since its establishment in 1964, the association has consistently promoted academic exchanges and conducted scientific and technological inspections both domestically and internationally within the field of pulping, papermaking and related disciplines, fostering discipline development, promoting independent innovation in the paper industry, and advancing the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, thereby contributing significantly to the high-quality development of China’s paper industry.
The "Cai Lun Award" of the China Technical Association of Paper Industry was established to honor those who have made outstanding contributions to technological innovation and progress in China's paper industry. It aims to inspire and motivate members and science and technology workers of the industry across the country to enhance the innovation and advancement of modern papermaking science and technology, strengthen the effectiveness of technological innovation, and promote the high-quality development of China's paper industry. It is the highest-level social award in China's science and technology field of pulping and papermaking.
