Recently, Associate Professor Chen Hongyu from the research team led by Academician Wang Shuangfei, focusing on "Clean Separation and Transformation of Plant Fibers and Green Preparation of Paper-Based Functional Materials" at our university, in collaboration with Professor Ji Hongbing from Zhejiang University of Technology, made new advances in the important field of biomimetic catalysis applying to SAzymes. The novel approach was based on the structural characteristics of natural enzymes. Utilizing a mechano-assisted in-situ MOF (Metal-Organic Framework) capsulation strategy, they fabricated an amphiaster-like Fe-SAzymes. This innovation provided a new approach and strategy at the atomic scale to address the challenge of regulating the activity of multi-functional nanozymes.

The related research findings were published titled with "Boosting the Catalase-Like Activity of SAzymes via Facile Tuning of the Distances between Neighboring Atoms in Single-Iron Sites" in “Angewandte Chemie”, a top international journal in the field of chemistry. The paper was also invited to feature on the cover and was highlighted on the WeChat official account of “WileyChem”. This marked a breakthrough for the School of Light Industry and Food Engineering as the first corresponding institution to publish a paper in “Angewandte Chemie”. It was also another significant milestone for the discipline of light industry technology and engineering in publishing high-level research in internationally influential journals.

The paper received strong support from Associate Professor He Xiaohui of the School of Chemistry at Sun Yat-sen University, Associate Professor He Qian of the School of Light Industry and Food Engineering at Guangxi University, Dr. Liu Xiaohui from the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology at Sun Yat-sen University, and Researcher Liao Cangsong from the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

It is reported that the research team led by Academician Wang Shuangfei has been committed to the development and application of bio-based materials. In recent years, the team has published over 100 papers included in Science Citation Index (SCI) in internationally renowned journals such as “Applied Catalysis B: Environmental”, with more than 3,100 citations. The team has also had two Hot Papers included in Essential Science Indicator (ESI) and eight Highly Cited Papers in ESI selected.
